DERMAL FILLER DISSOLVING
It isn’t uncommon for new patients to enquire about dissolving their filler to attain a more subtle and natural appearance.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called Hyaluronidase. This enzyme naturally occurs in our skin but can be injected at higher concentrations in order to rapidly remove unwanted filler.
DR BERRY'S ADVICE
RETREATING AFTER DISSOLVING
Dermal fillers must sometimes be dissolved. We frequently have clients come to us from other clinics who are dissatisfied with their facial fillers. Perhaps the dermal filler is overfilled, incorrectly placed, or appears lumpy. One of the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are not only a naturally occurring substance in the body, but they can also be dissolved if things do not go as planned. Dermal fillers can be dissolved almost instantly with the help of an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
When dermal filler is misplaced, incorrectly injected or over-injected it can be visible to the naked eye. The 'duck lips' are a prime example of this, when someone has a puffy upper lip or a constant protruded pout due to filler migration into the gum line and above the lip tissue. Aside from the fact that this appears unnatural and is not the desired look for the majority of patients, it can also have long-term implications and cause complications.
After two weeks, when the filler has completely dissolved and settled, Dr Berry can inject filler into the area again correctly and subtly.
Many new patients use the option of dissolving filler to remove all previous work and start over on a blank canvas. At a two-week review, we usually re-fill our patients to achieve the natural result they desire.
